Poppleston Allen Training to offer the new BIIAB training qualification aimed at making staff aware of their responsibilities around gambling legislation.

The qualification has been developed in collaboration with The Gambling Commission, Business in Sport & Leisure and People 1st (the Sector Skills Council for hospitality, leisure, tourism and travel).

The BIIAB Level 2 Award in Working within Gambling Legislation qualification covers the three Licensing objectives in depth:

1. To keep crime out of gambling
2. To ensure that gambling is conducted fairly and openly
3. To protect children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling

The Award is suitable for those working in the arcade, betting, bingo, casino and gaming machines industries, as well as online operators.

Cathie Smith, director of BIIAB, said: 'Anyone running a gambling operation, however large or small, has a duty of care to their customers and their staff'.

The steady growth in gambling and increasing regulation means that all staff who interact with customers are obliged to understand their responsibilities around the licensing objectives which came into effect in September 2007 as part of the Gambling Act 2005.

The qualification was developed with the input and advice from The Gambling Commission who said:

'We consider that a well informed industry workforce is important to the safeguarding of these objectives, and so welcome the development of specific education targeted at this area of knowledge'

The qualification, which is deliverable in one day, is supported by an informative, interactive, learner-friendly workbook and is assessed via a 24 question, 30 minute multiple choice examination.

Whether you hold a personal, premises and operational licence under the Gambling Act 2005, by ensuring your staff fully understand and appreciate their legal and social responsibilities you can take a positive step towards promoting the licensing objectives under the Act as well as avoiding a review and possible suspension of any or all of your licences.

The BIIAB Level 2 Award in Working Within Gambling Legislation will be available from January 2010.
